If you don't have some type of estate planning tools in place then your wishes will be carried out by somebody else, and not always to your liking. The "medical power of attorney" is a legal document that states what your wishes should be should you become incapacitated. Usually a trusted family member or friend will be named to conduct your medical decisions according to your desires in these unfortunate circumstances.

In this document you provide an "agent" (someone you designate) to make financial decisions for you in the event that you are incapacitated and medically unable to make these decisions. Obviously the bills need to be paid as well as other financial activity and this document provides the means to accomplish what needs to be done.

In some circumstances you may find that probate is occurring and you need guidance through the process or wish to have legal representation in these matters. Probate is the process of administering the deceased person's estate and settling matters such as outstanding debts and property transfers to loved ones.
